Non-Magnetic Fasteners for MRIs, Utilities & More

Non-Magnetic Materials and Their Uses

Titanium

Titanium is solid and durable metal. Because of its strength and non-magnetic qualities, titanium is the preferred material for fasteners in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines. In addition, titanium is frequently used on equipment that enters the MRI area, including gurneys, stretchers and surgery tools.

Aluminum

Aluminum is a ceramic. In addition to being non-magnetic, aluminum is extremely lightweight. Therefore, aluminum is ideal for projects and builds in which weight adds up quickly. Additionally, the aerospace and flight industries prefer aluminum because of its lightweight nature and aesthetics.

Brass

Brass is a durable but soft metal that resists water and conducts electricity and heat. As a result, the plumbing and heating industries prefer brass fasteners. In addition, because brass is resistant to both extremely high and low temperatures and is resistant to water corrosion, it is ideal for wastewater treatment plants and pipework.

Silicone bronze

Silicone bronze is a strong metal. Silicone bronze conducts heat and resists corrosion, even in saltwater. Therefore, it is ideal for marine and sewage treatment plant use.

Nylon

Nylon is a polymer. Because nylon doesn’t burn, nylon fasteners are ideal for high-heat projects. As a strong plastic, nylon can be modified and changed. Water absorption decreases when acetal is applied to nylon fasteners. However, nylon can absorb water and break down when exposed to sunlight without proper modifications. Additionally, nylon is not the strongest material.

Stainless steel*

Not all stainless steel is non-magnetic! However, austenitic stainless steel and a handful of other steel compositions are non-magnetic. Because of its high strength, non-magnetic steel is preferred for heavy materials.

Find the Right Non-Magnetic Fastener for You

Different industries and projects require unique, non-magnetic fasteners. Non-magnetic nuts, bolts, rivets and other fasteners can make the difference between corrosion and durability, thermal conduction and more.
